frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to register for this run?
Absolutely nothing! This is strictly for fun & to raise awareness for Mental Health Week. We will have swag bags guaranteed for the first 200 people (given out the day of the run), so please register early if you want to receive these goodies!
I am an educator & would like to take my whole class out to participate in Move for Mental Health. Can I easily register all my students?
Yes you can! We have created a special Eventbrite site just for this purpose. We wanted to make it easy to register a whole class with a few quick clicks so that we make sure you are all included in our participant numbers. Simply follow the link here to get started.
What if I register for the online/virtual version of the event?
Registration means that you are committing to Move for Mental Health, any time between April 30 May 6 (for Mental Health Week). That means you can move any way you like: run, walk, roller blade, bike, dance, wheel your wheelchair, etc. for any distance or amount of time YOU choose, wherever you choose to move!
Are there prizes for the fastest runners?
As this is strictly an awareness walk/run, we will not be timing participants' walk/runs so no prizes will be given out for fastest times. However, we will have several swag items available at our Community Resource Fair!
How can I register?
The easiest method of registration is to do so online by clicking here. You may also register in person between 1:00-2:00 pm the day of the run, but we highly encourage everyone to pre-register.
Can I create a team to encourage people to join?
Unfortunately, Eventbrite no longer seems to have an option to register a team vs. each individual person. But you can still create an informal team. Challenge other schools or workplaces to see who can create the largest teams or who shows up in the best outfits!
What if the weather is yukky?
Our event will go, rain or shine! We found that when you're moving around and having fun, it doesn't matter what the weather is doing!
Why are we being asked to dress in green or to wear silly hats?
Mostly because it adds more fun to the event but there is a specific reason we've asked you to participate in this way. Green is the color chosen for mental health awareness (thus the green ribbon logo we've created!) and as this is a kick-off to Mental Health Week, we felt it was only fitting. Also, the Wednesday of Mental Health Week is also Children's Mental Health Day and is often marked in schools with Hats On for Mental Health, a day when students are encouraged to wear their hats in recognition of the day and to bring awareness of children's mental health issues.
Can I bring a stroller? What about wheelchairs?
Strollers and wheelchairs are totally welcome! We just ask that all participants are courteous to the other runners/walkers by keeping to the right of the path to allow an easy flow of traffic. Bikes and inline skates are discouraged as we expect the paths to be quite full with walkers/runners and we want to reduce the risk of injury to all participants.
Can I bring my dog with me?
As long as your dog is on a leash & is comfortable around large groups of people and other dogs, you are welcome to have your pet join us for the walk too. And if the humans are having fun being decked out in hats & green gear, the dogs are more than welcome to come dressed up too!
What time does the run start?
Please be at the park between 1:00 and 2:00 to sign in or to register (it will simplify the process considerably if you pre-register). We will have opening ceremonies and a warm-up around 2:00 pm with an aim to start the run by 2:15-ish.
How do I get to Kin Coulee Park?
The park is pretty easy to access from any part of Medicine Hat or if coming from out of town. Please refer to the map, below, for more details (click on map for larger image):

Where should I park?
Parking within Kin Coulee itself is not available to participants! However, you can also park in the Municipal Works parking lot just outside of Kin Coulee (along Kipling St., beside the recycling bins). Please note: Municipal Works will still need access to their yard and building so do NOT block any gates or doors!
What is the route we will be running/walking?
This will be a 2km or a 4km run/walk. You can find the route here. If you choose to go further, you are more than welcome to add an extra lap for a 6 km distance (or as long as you'd like!).
